12/10/2009 - Monthly Alzheimer Support Group Meetings
Held every 2nd Thursday of the month throughout the year at the Visiting Nurse Services of Newport & Bristol Counties office at 1184 East Main Rd., Portsmouth, RI. For more info, call 401-682-2100, ext. 635.
| 3/3/2010 - Bereavement Groups Starting in March and May
Hospice at Visiting Nurse Services of Newport & Bristol Counties, in collaboration with Memorial Funeral Home, provides several 6-week Bereavement Education Groups for those dealing with the loss of a loved one. Participants a share feelings and learn coping strategies. These 6-week groups are open to the public. Pre-registration is required. Our next group will be begin March 3, 2010, 4:30 to 6 pm, at United Congregational Church, 524 Valley Rd., Middletown, RI. To register for either group or for more information, please call Alison at 401-682-2100, ext. 485. Another 6-week bereavement education support group will be offered on May 26.

Hospice volunteers are an important part of our Hospice program. Our next training series begins Thurs., March 18 and continues for 6 consecutive Thursdays, ending on April 22. Held 6 pm - 9 pm at VNS of Newport & Bristol's Portsmouth office, 1184 East Main Rd.

Teens! Need to finish high school? GED classes are available throughout the year by VNS of Newport & Bristol Counties. Two locations: VNS, 21 Chapel St., Newport, Mon - Fri., 9 am - 1 pm and Rogers Free Library, 525 Hope St., Bristol, Mon, Thurs, Fri. 9 am - 12 pm. Classes are free of cost to youth ages 16-20. Every month VNS of Newport & Bristol Counties holds Wellness Clinics at a variety of locations across Newport and Bristol Counties. Nurses check the blood pressure levels of people who attend the clinics. Glucose and cholesterol screenings are offered periodically.
