Agency Volunteers
We would like to match your talent and energy to a need in
our agency. Do you have clerical experience? Are you skilled
on the computer? Do you like assisting with special events,
or maintenance projects? Then you can make a difference at
Visiting Nurse Services. Our agency volunteers are
teenagers, college students, young mothers, retirees, and
people in between jobs.
Our office hours are Monday through Friday 8 to 5.
Volunteers can choose the hours and frequency they would
like to be available. We appreciate a one time commitment,
or continual service.
We also partner with businesses and local schools for
community service days to build teamwork and offer a change
from the norm.
Agency volunteers are subject to a brief training and are
required to sign a confidentiality agreement.

Hospice Volunteer
Hospice volunteers donate a few hours each week to provide
companionship for patients with terminal illnesses and respite
for their families who live in Newport & Bristol counties. Each
volunteer is required to complete a twenty-one hour course that
educates persons on becoming hospice volunteers. The course
touches on the hospice philosophy, the physical and emotional
aspects of death and dying and coping strategies. Once
volunteers have completed the training program they begin
visiting patients. Visits may include keeping patients company
to give the primary care giver time for him or herself, running
errands, helping around the house or providing a sympathetic ear
to family members. If you are a caring and dedicated individual
looking for a new way to share your strengths and interests.
Flu Clinic Volunteers
Each year, Visiting Nurse Services hosts over 80 flu clinics
between October and February throughout Newport and Bristol
counties. Volunteers are needed at each clinic to assist
with registering the customers who come for their flu shot.
A 2 ½ hour training session is held each September for
anyone interested in serving as a volunteer. Most clinics
are held on weekdays and last for only 2 to 4 hours.
Volunteers may choose to cover only one clinic a season, or
help on a regular basis throughout the fall.
No nursing experience is necessary to become a flu clinic
volunteer. This is a terrific opportunity for people who
enjoy socializing and meeting new people.
