Pharmacist Educates Staff on Antibiotic Use and Misuse

URI PharmD candidate Marisha Okpala presented "Antimicrobial Stewardship:  Encouraging Self Care" to VNS staff and plans to present informative lecture to community groups.

Marisha Okpala, URI PharmD candidate and pharmacy resident on the VNS homecare team, recently presented “Antimicrobial Stewardship:  Encouraging Self Care” to the VNS nursing department.  The goal of her talk was to teach patients how to reduce the overuse and educate on the proper use of antibiotics.  She emphasized the importance of keeping up with vaccinations, reviewed over the counter non-antibiotic products for colds, acute bronchitis, and urinary tract infections, and indicated how and when to use antibiotics.
Shown in this photo are Marisha Okpala and Dr. Katherine Corsi, the current year 6 PharmD resident on the VNS home care team.
